1. Create an account with an email code, or with a Google, Discord, or Twitter login.
2. Pick a style, realistic or anime, and an age on a slider that starts at 18.
3. Set the looks, then the personality, an occupation, a place, a scenario, and a voice.
4. Check the summary, then save the character.
5. Start the first chat and see what the character keeps from it.

The builder ran in the browser. I stopped at the summary screen and didn’t press “Create my AI,” so the character wasn’t saved.

Step 1: Pick a builder and create an account

Pick a builder with a free tier, then create an account. Swipey AI took an email and a five-digit code, or a Google, Discord, or Twitter login, with no captcha, card, or phone number.

A new account came with 20 Hearts, the site’s currency for messages and extras. If you’d rather spend nothing, start with a library character, which every app here offers.

Step 2: Pick a style

The first choices set the style and the age. Swipey AI offered two styles, realistic and anime, and an age slider from 18 to 55-plus. The looks came next, in several short screens.

The steps with picture choices, such as style, hair, and body type, showed explicit preview images. I didn’t capture those screens, so they’re described here in words only.

Step 3: Set personality, voice and backstory

The later steps set who the character is. Swipey AI’s builder offered seven personality types, then an occupation, a place, and a scenario, such as “Morning Coffee.” The voice came last, and the builder suggested “Mature.”

Then came a summary. It included a few options the site added on its own, and the chips couldn’t be edited there. Its carousels also repeated some items, so a click could land on the wrong one.

Step 4: Start the first chat and check what she remembers

Start with a few facts the character can repeat later, then ask for them back. I ran that test with library characters, because Swipey AI’s help keeps chat with a custom character for Premium.

Nectar AI, GirlfriendGPT, and Swipey AI all gave back a test name and city at message 5, in role, on 10/16/2026 and 10/17/2026.

Step 5: Edit, save or delete your character

Expect more control over the chat than over the character. Nectar AI lets you edit your own messages and regenerate a reply with a refresh icon. GirlfriendGPT’s chat options, such as reply length, need a subscription.

Swipey AI charges for changes after saving: “15 Hearts per saved edit, plus 10 for a voice change.” Its Delete Profile removes the account and your data for good.

What creating one costs

You can create one AI girlfriend for free in some apps, and the rest costs a plan or a site currency. Swipey AI’s help prices a custom character at 15 Hearts without Premium. From a US connection on 10/15/2026, its pricing page showed $7.99/mo, the 12-month plan billed $95.99 up front.

Nectar AI’s plans add extra customizations, from “45+” on Premium to “350+” on its top plan. GirlfriendGPT’s Premium lists “Custom Characters” among its features.
